We’ll meet at 7pm to discuss Grown Woman Talk by Sharon Malone, M.D. If you’d like to join us, email me and I’ll send you the details.
Book Club Info
Our club is open to women only and we read books authored exclusively by American women of color. We meet once a month, on the last Tuesday of the month, and we are serious about doing the reading and coming ready to discuss it. I hope you'll join us, and I hope together we'll grow and learn and get uncomfortable for the sake of making our communities more racially equitable places to live, work, and play.

Book Club History
I birthed my second child and only daughter on November 10, 2016 and spent about a year experiencing a low hum of fear and grief and probably postpartum depression. I was fortunate to be surrounded by friends and family and to have access to good healthcare. Plus I was so in love with my baby girl, and I was motivated to help make the US a better place for her to grow up. In 2017, I started listening to the podcast Another Round, which not only made me laugh and cry, but also taught me that I had a lot to learn about race in America. Around the same time, I started following Lisa Lucas on twitter and she pointed me to so many good books.
During the summer of 2017 I was talking with a friend about her book club and how great it was and I asked if she could invite me to join. She said no. So I decided to start my own book club instead. And as the idea came together in my mind, I decided I wanted to do my tiny part to amplify the voices of nonwhite American women. And I wanted, as much as possible, for our group to purchase books from independent booksellers. I wanted these women authors to get paid. It seemed like the very least I could do.
We’re now seven years in and going strong, even after more than a year spent meeting virtually. We’ve read some really great books (Pachinko, A Place For Us, Such A Fun Age, and Braiding Sweetgrass are particular standouts), and we have had some hard and fun and real and good discussions. For me, this little club has been a source of so much joy and hope and inspiration since my daughter was born and I could not be more thankful for all the ladies who have joined me.
